When I was first offered this KidzLane karaoke machine to review I was thinking about how much my 8 year old Granddaughter would like it and that’s who I had it in mind for.   When it showed up my 12 year old step son couldn’t wait to try it and he and my husband ended up having tons of fun playing with it so it looks like it isn’t going to make it to her.  I was actually surprised at how nice it is.  It’s very easy to figure out and plays CDs or MP3s and the duel microphones are a great feature since it allows you to “jam out” with a friend.  Each microphone also has it’s own volume so one person won’t “drown out” the other if they sing louder.  It’s a great size and the handle makes it easy to carry around if you like dancing while using it and the buttons are all easy to read.   It’s intended for ages 5 and up and from my experience the “and up” means it’s good for any age!  My husband was having just as much fun as Hayden was and  I had a blast watching them.

karaoke8Hayden did mention that it would be nice if you could see the words to what you are singing like some karaoke machines offer but that didn’t stop him from trying.  I’m really not sure you could add that feature since you use your own CDs or MP3s but it didn’t seem to make much difference in their fun anyway.  If anything, it made it more interesting to watch as you can see for yourself in the video below.

I am very pleased with this karaoke machine and recommend it for any kid that likes to sing along with their bands or pretend they are a famous rock star.   I like the bright colors they used to make it, the fact that it is very durable and that it is so easy to operate.  This would be a great addition to “Family Game Night” and also for slumber parties or birthday parties or really anytime the kids are bored and complaining they have nothing to do.  You should definitely keep it in mind for potential birthday or Christmas gifts.  I think any kid would love to have one and I especially like that it gets them involved in what they are doing instead of just staring blankly into a game boy or something.  I am always looking for something to keep Hayden occupied and this has been great.  We had lots of fun and many giggles playing with ours.

I fell in love with this tea set at soon as I saw it.  It reminded me of a set that my Grandma bought for me when I was about 5 years old.  I would sit at my little table & chairs with all of my babies and stuffed animals around me and we would have the best tea parties ever!  I seriously played with that set about 3 or 4 times each week for years and I was always trying to get people to attend my tea parties.  My brothers would reluctantly have tea with me but usually only if I provided a snack but my Grandma was always willing.  I had been looking for a nice set like this and had only been seeing cheap, plastic ones so I was super happy to find this set from Velocity Toys.  This metal tea set will hold up much better than the plastic ones and I love all the cute painted details.  It really made Kaleigh feel like the best hostess around.

teaset17This set comes with the teapot, tray, 4 teacups & saucers and 4 snack plates.  The size is perfect for toddlers on up to about 7 or 8 years old and it’s made really well.  It is intended for pretend play but we did try using it with actual juice.  The tea pot leaked just a little around the rivets but the cups didn’t leak at all and Kaleigh seemed to enjoy it much more after we gave her real liquid to play with.  The plates are a perfect size to hold a small snack like a cookie or some cut up fruit and she had a lot of fun serving everyone.  She must have filled that teapot up 2 or 3 times before we finally had to tell her she’d had enough to drink.  Since she is also going through potty training right now it was an interesting day to say the least.  (I am happy to report we had zero accidents)

teaset16 It really made me happy to see her having so much fun and it definitely brought back lots of great memories of my Grandma for me.   I hope that someday she will remember these great times too and do the same for her future Grandbabies.   Pretend play is so important and you could tell  this made her feel very grown up.  Her mother has let me know that she has played with her new tea set every day and that it quickly became her favorite toy.

Kaleigh’s eyes lit up the minute she saw hers and when it was time for her to go home she did not want to put it away.  I finally got her to understand that she could take it home with her and then she was happy,  but at first she was quite upset that she couldn’t play with it anymore.   Sometimes it’s the simpler toys in life that hold the best memories and I think this tea set really fits that bill.

speedmintonC  It’s always especially nice to get review items that the kids can enjoy too.   Even better when it’s something that will get them outside and away from technology for a bit.  This Speedminton badminton set was a hit as soon as our son Hayden saw it!  The first thing he said was  “Wow! This is awesome and these racquets are so light!”   Lightweight racquets are great because they give  you more control and keep your arms from getting tired so you can play longer.  The set also includes different birdies. There are ones for beginners, one for windier days, one for greater speed and even one that glows in the dark.  It also has cones for marking off boundaries, glow in the dark sticks for night time play and an awesome backpack style case to carry it all in.  (Speedminton isn’t normally played with a net although they used one.)

Matt & Hayden started playing while I was fixing dinner and still didn’t seem to want to stop when it was time to come inside and eat.  The whole time I was cooking I could hear them outside laughing and yelling “score!” or “haha!  you suck!”…and at one point Hayden ended up laying on the ground because he was laughing so hard he couldn’t stand up.  (From what I understood, neither of them were very good and it was quite funny)

speedmintonBy the time dinner was over it was getting dark so they got out one of the glow sticks and put it into the birdie.   What a great idea!    The birdie was very bright and quite easy to see and both of them said that they loved being able to play in the dark.  I had never seen an option like this on a badminton set and think it’s a great touch. The birdie  looked really cool and it was fun watching them play when they could barely see each other.

speedmintonD This would make a wonderful Christmas present if you live in an area with mild Winter weather.   It’s great fun and the option to be able to play in the dark is wonderful.

ball1  Our son is 11 years old and although he does okay in school we noticed that he wasn’t doing very well with basic math skills.   He knows the answer but it just seems to take longer than it should for him to come up with it.  When I saw the TheO Smartball it seemed like a great way for him to have fun and brush up on his math skills at the same time.

We started by going to  the PHYSICAL APPS WEBSITE and downloading one of the apps they offer for the TheO Smartball.   They have different apps to choose from depending on the age and skills of the child but most of them seem to be geared towards preschoolers.  (And many of the free ones were only good for iphones, we have Samsung smartphones) We picked the Math Flash game and downloaded the app.   We selected multiplication since this is where we feel he has the most problems but we were a little disappointed that it only covered up to 12×12.   It should still be helpful to him though since it requires repetition but it would have been nice if it offered a more advanced level too.

I can see how this would be perfect for younger kids, especially preschoolers and early elementary.  There are several apps that would be great for teaching numbers, letters and colors and there is also a bowling app that I think smaller children would enjoy.  It does state on their website that there are more apps coming in September so we are looking forward to seeing what they add.  Hopefully they will add more for the older children.

We haven’t had this long enough yet to say for sure that it helped but it has definitely brought some fun back to learning and that counts for a lot!    Our son is almost too old for this since most of the apps are geared toward younger children but since he really just needs to brush up on the basics it is still useful for him.  I only wish this would have come out when he was younger because it would be great for children just starting school or even preschoolers to help them get a head start.

If you have a child that would be interested in the TheO Smartball you can visit  their PHYSICAL APPS WEBSITE here to learn more about the Smartball and the apps you can choose from.
